Orthodox Prayers

Prayer is the Christian's first debt, which he must fulfill. It is "time for everything under heaven!", Says the Ecclesiastes (3,1), but how can it not be time for prayer, which is the first thing under heaven ?! Only the one who does not want to pray, does not find weather for prayer. For a beggar to receive mercy, he must reach out, for a baby to receive food, he must open his mouth, just as a man must turn to God, to have his soul open, to receive His gifts.

Prayer is the outstretched hand for receiving the Gifts of God, it is the open mouth for tasting heavenly food. As a golden key, prayer opens all the treasures of heavenly mercies. The prayer rises, and the blessing of God descends. Pray to God as you see Him, because He precisely sees you! If any man, when approaching an earthly emperor, exposes his request with fear and earthquake and with all due consideration, all the more he must stand and pray in the same way before God, the Master of all and Christ, The emperor of kings and the Lord of lords. So, do not avoid to reserve yourself a few moments from the 24 hours, in which to be humble before God. Spend a few moments and pray, with these short prayers transcribed here, and all will be well.

THE CREED

I believe in One God, Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in One Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father, through whom all things were made.

For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became Man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and He suffered and was buried. On the third day He rose according to the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father, who together with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church.

I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I expect the resurrection of the dead; and the life of the age, to come.

Amen.

OUR FATHER

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.
